The chain must be strong enough to support the weight of the mattress and its support plus the weight of you. So, a chain with welded links should be an answer. Most of the chains designed for lifting usually have a safety margin in the proportion of 5:1, meaning you need 500 pounds’ chain to lift 100 pounds’ weight.

The most important thing is to make sure your bedroom ceiling can support it. Adequate support in the ceiling is require as the bed itself weigh hundreds of pounds.
